In the Guam Women’s Tackle Football League championship game, the undefeated Team Legacy took down the Steel Blazers 30-7 to win their fifth consecutive title.
Legacy came out with a bang as Olivia Flores started the game with a 68-yard touchdown run. However, due to a block in the back, the touchdown was called off and the ball was placed at the 33-yard line.
Flores followed with a 20-yard run, and then scored a touchdown on an 11-yard run. The two-point conversion was a success on Morgan Reyes’ throw to Flores, and Legacy had an 8-0 lead.
Following a short possession by the Steel Blazers, Legacy was able to get the ball back and quickly score another touchdown. Flores drove her team down the field with a 38-yard run, escaping many tackles before being caught by a defender. Gia Sarusal then ran it to the 3-yard line, and followed with a touchdown to give Team Legacy a 14-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.
At the start of the second quarter, the Steel Blazers responded with a touchdown drive of their own. Quarterback TJ Rodrigues moved her team down the field a few yards at a time, before polishing it off with a 7-yard touchdown run. Following the kick, the Steel Blazers cut the Legacy lead down to 14-7.
Legacy tacked another touchdown before halftime, with Flores and Sarusal taking turns running the ball down the field. Flores got her second touchdown of the game on a 17-yard run, and Sarusal got the two-point conversion to give Team Legacy a 22-7 lead at the half.
The third quarter was all about defense for both teams, as both struggled to find the end zone.
The Steel Blazers had the first possession and fumbled the ball, which Legacy’s Kineshia Flores recovered. Two plays later, Legacy fumbled the ball and Lucy Angeles recovered it for the Steel Blazers.
The Steel Blazers would turn the ball over on down at their own 10-yard line after boldly going for it on fourth down, putting Legacy in prime position to score.
However, Legacy couldn’t move the ball more than five yards and turned the ball over on downs themselves.
The fourth quarter was a different story, as Team Legacy was able to quickly score following a punt from the Steel Blazers. Flores had a 16-yard run and followed it up with a 28-yard touchdown run, then got the two-point conversion on her own as well, to give Team Legacy a final victory of 30-7.
